The Finger Lakes area has some of the most picturesque gorges & trails. Here are the most noteworthy.

    1. Watkins Glen State Park                                         drive time: 38 mins

    • 1009 N. Franklin St.
    • (607) 535-4511

    Notes:

If you only had 24 hours in Ithaca, this would be the trail we recommend making the time for. It boasts 19 waterfalls, all viewable through easy hiking. ALWAYS start at the upper entrance & work your way down by taking the "Gorge Trail." Call ahead for shuttle times, which will shuttle you back to your car once you reach the bottom and if you miss it, no worries. Just take the "Indian Trail" back. Hike level: 1 (easy). Total time: 4 hours round-trip, including hike & drive time. Once done, you'll be famished. Make reservations @ the Stonecat Café, one of our favorite places to eat after gorging, which is close by from Watkins.

    2. Robert H. Treman State Park                                 drive time: 14 mins

    Notes:

If you don't have that much time on your hands for Watkins Glen, then visit Treman. There are 12 waterfalls, including the 115-foot Lucifer Falls. Again, start at the top so we recommend starting from the upper entrance (for the views) and hike your way down to your comfort level. Total time: 2 hours round-trip hike. Hike level: 1 (easy). Can swim in the lower level & is a very popular spot in the summer.

    2. Cascadilla Gorge                                                              2 min. walk

    • Linn St. & Court St., Ithaca

    Notes:

Don't feel like driving far? This trail starts Downtown & takes you directly to Collegetown. The great thing about Cornell is it's built on gorges so you don't have to go far just to see what makes Ithaca Ithaca. There is no physical address, but if you google map Linn St & Court St & follow directions to there, you won't miss the entrance (there will be a small waterfall viewable from the entrance). Once you reach Collegetown, Collegetown Bagels is a popular spot to grab a bite & pitchers of beer or sangria.

    1. Wegman's                                                                          8 min. drive

Depending on your mission: exceptional coffee or a great place to plop down & work, we've got you covered.

    1. Gimme!                                                                                   7 min. walk

    430 N. Cayuga St. • (607) 277-8393

    7am-8pm

The most consistently delicious lattes & espressos. Very friendly staff & a local favorite. A cozy atmosphere with a small space to work although it's usually full. This is a spot we mostly grab our coffee to go & take a stroll around the more quiet area in town, Fall Creek. Many grad students, locals, & professors live around this area for its serene neighborhood.

    2. Ithaca Coffee Co.                                                                5 min. walk

    311 E. Green St.  • (607) 257-2626 ext. 1236

    8am-9pm • Sun 8am-6pm

If you're a coffee connoisseur, Ithaca Coffee Co. is argued to be the best in town. It's also a homebrewing supply specialty store for both coffee & beer. You get here by walking opposite of Gimme! & towards the more busy Commons area so if you'd prefer to take a stroll through the local shops instead of local neighborhood, this would be the place to stop.

    3. The Shop                                                                                 3 min. walk

    312 E. Seneca St. • (607) 273-5028

    7:30am-7:00pm

The quality & taste of their coffee & espresso doesn't compare to the two above, however, they have a much better ambience to plop & work with more accessible outlets & a more interesting group of people to watch when taking a break from the screen. If you need a lengthy amount of time to work, we recommend this shop. They also serve fresh juices whereas the other coffee shops do not.

Here in Ithaca, we take our ice cream seriously. Three options, all locally sourced, homemade, & equally delicious.

    1. Sweet Melissa's Ice Cream Shop                                 7 min. walk

    200 W Seneca Street • (607) 273 - 3440

    1:00pm-9:00pm

Always a long line out front of this humble ice cream booth located at the side of the only 24-hour subway shop in town. Check their Facebook page for flavors (but we've never been let down by their citrus flavors - sorbet or not). Their soft serve is great too.

    2. Cayuga Lake Creamery                                                 25 min. drive

    8421 State Hwy 89, Interlaken • (607) 532-9492

    11:00am-9:00pm

Take a scenic drive through the rolling hills along Cayuga Lake and you'll find a classic ice cream shop with unique homemade flavors & house made waffle cones.

    3. Purity Ice Cream                                                                5 min. drive

    700 Cascadilla St. • (607) 272-1545

    7:30am-10:00pm

Purity put Ithaca ice cream on the map since they're the originators of homemade Ithaca ice cream. They were so successful, they renovated this shop to serve a larger number of customers. They have the widest selection of flavors so they'll have something for everyone.

Notes: Houses one of the best bartenders in Ithaca.

        Notes:

Don't feel like driving? This trail starts across the street from the apartment & takes you directly to Collegetown. The great thing about Cornell is it's built on gorges so you don't have to go far just to see what makes Ithaca Ithaca. To start the trek, when you leave the house, go left, cross the street, walk past the bus stop & head towards the waterfall. Once you reach Collegetown, Collegetown Bagels is a popular spot to grab a bite & pitchers of beer or sangria.

        1. Wegman's                                                                          5 min. drive

        500 S. Meadow St. • (607) 277-5800

        Open 24 hours

Wide, wide selection of groceries with a section for freshly made foods like bread, pizza, sushi, sandwiches, etc. Has its own large organic section. This is the one-stop shop for everything you need.

        2. Greenstar Co-Op Natural Foods Market               7 min. walk

        215 N. Cayuga St.  • (607) 273-8210

        8am-9pm; Sun 9am-8pm

A more concentrated selection of local, organic produce. They have a modest breakfast/lunch bar & a slew of healthy organic snacks. A local favorite stop.

Depending on your mission: exceptional coffee or a great place to plop down & work, we've got you covered.

        1. Gimme!                                                                                   6 min. walk

7 min. walk

        3. The Shop                                                                               5 min. walk
